Transport Projects – 2nd Class

Second Class carried out projects based on the theme “Transport”. They worked in groups at home and in school to make 3D models of either famous world landmarks or a from of transport. They loved sharing what they learned with the rest of their class and they were excellent describing their projects to the classes that came into see them.


Other Countries by Second Class

We studied different countries. We learned all about India and the Taj Mahal. We dressed up in Indian costumes and did projects on Indian culture. We also learned about other famous world landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and the Great Wall of China. Here we are in costumes and working on our projects.


First Class – Travel – Trains

The children in First Class have really enjoyed learning about trains. We learned about the history of trains and how they work, where they go and why trains are used for transport. The children have really enjoyed their research. We also read stories about trains and especially loved the abridged version of The Railway Children. Train Driver Visits School

In connection with our Aistear topic (travel and in particular the train) a train driver visited us last week. He told us lots about his job and the trains he drives. 5th Class RTÉ Christmas Art Competition

Last week we decided to enter RTÉ’s News Today’s Christmas Art Competition in order to be in with a chance of turning on the Christmas lights at the RTÉ studios. As daily viewers of the bulletin and as fantastic artists, we thought-why not! This years title was ‘My Christmas Wish’ and we were asked to submit a drawing or painting based on that title.

5th Class Pompeii Project!

In our first term, we studied Pompeii and its infamous volcanic mountain, Mount Vesuvius. Combining five curricular areas, we created a project on Pompeii, named ‘The Pompeii Project’. As part of this project, we each created a newspaper entitled ‘The Pompeii Times’ and wrote detailed articles based on the events of the volcanic eruption in AD79. The Stone Age – 6th Class

As part of Term 1 History, we explored and created an information wall about the three eras of the Stone Age. We created tools, weapons and jewelry, and we created our very own class wall painting based on the famous Cave Paintings of Lascaux.


Trains and Buddies in Junior Infants

Last week we painted trains then our buddies helped us to stick on different shapes for the wheels, funnels and engines.


Shapes in the Environment

Today we went outside to find examples of different shapes. We found lots of rectangles, squares, circles and semi-circles but not many triangles. There were lots of large shapes on the basketball court that we could all stand on and walk around.
