On Friday we held Grandparents Day. We went to mass first then some of the grandparents came in to school to visit the classrooms. In Junior Infants we showed our grandparents our art work and classroom. It was lovely to have so many visitors.
Sixth Class held a mock election for the whole school ahead of the general election on Saturday. We went to the hall to vote – we had to give in our polling cards, collect our ballot papers and pick our top 5 candidates.
As part of our Aistear topic on shopping we tasted a variety of fruit and vegetables – sugar snap peas, red pepper, grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple and mango. Some children were more reluctant than others but everyone who was in on the different days tried the food on offer that day.
We have had great fun in our opticians – making appointments, testing our eyes and of course trying on glasses. We also had a visit from Nuala an optomotrist who talked to us about looking after our eyes and all the different tests she does on eyes.
During the week we did the Skeleton Dance. On Friday we dressed up, visited 6th class to show off our costumes and played some games in the hall.
On Wednesday we looked at the Safe Cross Code video and tried on our HiVis vests. We went for a walk with 6th class to try them out. We also had a run around the astro.
We enjoyed listening to the story of the Gingerbread Man. We sequenced some pictures to tell the story and drew the features on our own gingerbread man. We also made our own gingerbread man. They were delicious.
On Thursday we went into the soft play area. Half of us played inside and half with the construction toys. Then we swapped over.
