Second class went on a nature trip to Hazelwood with a wildlife expert Shailagh Healy. The children had a great time exploring the woods and learning lots of new facts. They continued the learning back in class with Shailagh.

We have been practising for our Christmas concert in the church every day and today is the big day when we perform in front of all our families and friends. We had a Wimbledon style afternoon of fun on June 25th. We played tennis and enjoyed ice-cream and strawberries. Nixie- “I thought it was really cool as we got to experience what Wimbledon is like”. Ronan -“I liked having ice-cream and I got lots of energy out of it for the tennis”.

We have covered many of the Art strands over the last few months, such as painting, fabric and fibre and construction.
Lá Glas was a very exciting day in second class. We had a catwalk show in our room to show off all the lovely costumes, sang Irish songs and made 3D shamrock cards.
Today is Saint Brigid’s Day. Brigid used the crosses to represent the love of God. She used the rushes from the floor when she was sitting with a dying pagan chieftain and began to weave them in to a cross. The chieftain was curious and asked her what she was doing. We are currently reading a novel called The Hodgeheg by Dick-King Smith. It deals with the topic of road safety. The hedgehogs in the story face many challenges trying to cross the road. We also learned the Safe Cross Code in class and took part in a poster competition. We were asked to design a poster promoting the use of high visibility clothing. Good
