We have been reading the story Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne. It is a funny story, Handa put seven fruit into a basket to bring to her friend Akeyo. As Handa walked to Akeyo’s, animals took fruit out of her basket! Handa got a real surprise when she arrived at Akeyo’s.
We had great fun tasting the fruit Handa had in her basket, bananas, oranges, passion fruit, avocado, mango, pineapple and pomegranate (substitute for a quava).
We discussed what each fruit tasted like and recorded our favourite on a graph.
Some comments from the children…
“The avocado tasted plain”, said Romilly Rose.
“The orange was juicy”, Isabel.
“The passion fruit tasted very sweet”, said Cass.
Luke said, “I liked the pineapple, it tasted sweet and juicy”.
“The banana was my favourite”, Evan W.
Aoibhe said, “I liked the banana because it was nice and sweet”.
We made a bar graph on our favourite fruit from the story. Bananas were the most popular, with eight children choosing it as their favourite. Avocado’s were the least favourite of the fruits sampled! Check out our graph below to see our other findings and some photos of us.
