Electricity

Third and Fourth classes studied electricity in Science. We began by learning how electricity is generated and by examining all the uses of electricity in our homes and at school. We then discussed the dangers associated with electricity and how to use electricity in a safe manner. Our first investigation was to explore different ways of creating simple cicuits using a combination of bulbs, batteries and wires.

WEEE Ireland Assembly

Today, a man called Niall Lydon from Galway, came to the school to talk to us about recycling. He talked to us about not throwing electrical items away. We learned from him that we can recycle most things in the world like kettles, Xboxes, PS3s, washing machines etc. His rule was that anything that can be plugged in or has batteries can be recycled.

In 6th class we did a science experiment using potatoes. We learned that potatoes are made up of about 75% water. Our experiment was to see how well the potatoes held the water.   Today we did an experiment for Science Week. For this experiment you need vinegar, washing up liquid, food colouring, bread soda and an empty bottle. Pour vinegar into the bottle until 3/4 full.
