6th Class are just completing a class novel called “Faraway Home” by Marilyn Taylor. It tells the story of two Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Austria called Karl and Rosa who are sent on a Kindertransport to Millisle Farm in Northern Ireland. We studied the Norman invasion of Ireland in History. We learned all about why the Normans came to Ireland in the first place, towns they conquered, new towns they established, new farming practices they brought, Norman surnames, pastimes and Norman forts and castles. We each then completed a written project on The Normans using the information we learned at school along with our own individual research.

Third and Fourth classes completed group projects on Co. Sligo. We spent a lot of time researching and writing about different aspects of Co Sligo. Some of the topics included in our projects were physical features of Sligo, the history of Sligo, tourist attractions and landmarks, famous Sligo people and industry in Co Sligo. We also sourced or drew suitable illustrations to enhance our projects.
