Rugby Coaching

                Fifth and sixth classes have just completed a four week block of rugby coaching. This coaching was provided by trained coaches supplied by Connacht Rugby. Sixth Class Art

Sixth class have been studying the career of Henri Matisse, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Matisse was renowned for his expressive painting often without regard for the natural colours of the subject. Matisse’s work contained aggressive brush strokes and bold primary colours. In the 1940s, Matisse began creating cut paper collages. He called this new technique ‘painting with scissors’.

Carrowmore Field Trip

Fifth and sixth classes recently went on a field trip to Carrowmore Tombs, one of the four major passage tomb complexes in Ireland. Our tour guide, Padraig, began by showing us around the interpretive centre and explaining the history of the area. We then embarked on a guided tour of some of the ancient burial sites. Mural Art

Karen Webster came in to 5th and 6th class to talk about doing a  mural to promote recycling. Karen came in every Friday for a couple of weeks to get us to draw pictures that would go in the mural. Local History

This week we have been looking through old roll books from Knocknarea school. The writing in the books was difficult to read, some of it was in old Irish. Pioneer Pledge

On the 4th of June fourteen people in our class took a pledge. This pledge was to not smoke, drink until age 18 and to stay off illegal drugs for life. The ceremony took place in the local church, Star of the Sea Ransboro in the presence of Father Mc Crann. There was a lady from the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association (PTAA) there. Her

Confirmation

On Thursday 16th of May 6th class in Ransboro and Strandhill School made their Confirmation. The mass was on in Ransboro church and at eleven o’clock the bishop started the mass. 6th Class Trip To Delphi

On Tuesday June 11th, 6th class went on their final school tour to the Delphi Adventure Centre in Leenane Co. Galway with Ms Hynes and Mr. Quinn. We stayed overnight and we did five activities while we stayed there – raft-building, forest walk, kayaking, zipwire and rock climbing/abseiling. 6th Class Interview Author Marilyn Taylor

6th Class are just completing a class novel called “Faraway Home” by Marilyn Taylor. It tells the story of two Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Austria called Karl and Rosa who are sent on a Kindertransport to Millisle Farm in Northern Ireland.
