Story time with 2nd and Junior Infants

Over the last couple of weeks the children in Second class were working very hard on their versions of the Christmas story. Once they were completed they went down to Junior Infants to read the stories to them. Second Class remembered to ask questions while they were reading and everyone enjoyed themselves.

The Wind.

We had a spooky day in second class on the last day of term with the children dressing in a variety of costumes.


Try-aTri

Well done to everyone who participated in the try-a-tri on Thursday 22nd October organised by Sligo Triathlon Club, Youth Sport West and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership. It was the biggest inter primary event in the country and 24 children from the school were involved. Running

The running club is going well, there are some very enthusiastic runners and every one is trying to improve their own style, speed, fitness and distance. Maths Trail

During maths week we did a maths trail round the school. This involved counting, adding, identifying shapes and measuring using steps and strides. We all wrote a sentence about the maths trail. Authors in Second Class

Authors in Second Class The children have been busy writing stories based on a cat stuck up a tree.  After editing their stories they each made a book with a front cover that included the title, author and illustrator and a back cover that showed the publisher, back page blurb, other books by these famous authors and a price. Second Class Art

Clarice Cliff was part of the ‘art deco’ artist movement. She loved to use vibrant colours; including blue, black, orange, green, red and yellow. We looked at some of her scenes and did our own paintings based on them.    


Sports Day Second Class

Second class enjoyed a very active sports day.  They started with races in the hall, followed by the bouncy castles and after break parachutes, space hoppers and dodge ball.  They spent the afternoon on the field doing relay races, the egg and spoon, the long jump, an obstacle course, 3-legged races, tossing the welly and the tug of war.
