Second Class Art

Clarice Cliff was part of the ‘art deco’ artist movement. She loved to use vibrant colours; including blue, black, orange, green, red and yellow. We looked at some of her scenes and did our own paintings based on them.    


Spring Flowers

Pupils from The Glen have been doing some work about Spring.They made some Spring flowers using painted handprints which they really enjoyed. They then cut out the flowers, stems and leaves and displayed them on the wall.


The Legend of Spud Murphy

We are really enjoying our latest novel The Legend of Spud Murphy. Spud is described as a ninja librarian. She is very strict and it is believed she has a spud gun under her desk that she uses on bold children. Green School Competition

The green school committee organised a competition in November where children had to come up with a slogan to promote biodiversity.  The entries were to be in by the 12th of December.  We received a great response and we got many great slogans and also great artwork. It was very difficult to pick a winner but the winners were Junior/senior infants: Finn McD 1st/2nd:

Sixth Class Christmas Village

Sixth class constructed a model Christmas village as our Art lesson over the last few weeks. First we constructed different shaped buildings from cardboard, paying particular attention to features like windows, doors, roofs and chimneys. Next we covered our structures with papier-mâché. When the papier-mâché dried, we designed shop-fronts for our buildings and painted them accordingly. Finally we added festive effects such as snow

Winter and Christmas Art Work

Pupils in The Glen have been busy helping to create some great pieces of art on our theme of Winter/Christmas. Firstly. they dipped their feet into black paint to create this great Footprint Penguins display. They really enjoyed painting with their feet! Apple Art Work

After reading Apples by Gale Gibson we created a lovely apple art project. In this project the children used a lot of techniques: tracing, painting, cutting and pasting. While painting with red and yellow we discussed how mixing these colours created the colour orange. The children then added value to the work by gluing hessian  down for their apples to sit on.  It is amazing

We looked at “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. We also looked at what influenced his paintings. Edvard’s mum died of T.B when he was a child and his sister also died young. Ceramic Art Work

Pupils in The Glen recently did some workshops with ceramic artist Gráinne Mc Loughlin in Breeogue Pottery. They created these decorative ceramic plates which were then glazed and fired in the kiln. They have also created, with Gráinne’s assistance, a unique sun-dial which will be displayed in the garden of the new Glen building when it is completed in the Spring of 2015. The

Field Trip to Carrowmore

Our visit to Carrowmore In  September 5th and 6th classes visited Carrowmore megalithic cemetery. An archaeologist named Padraic gave us a tour of the site. We learned lots of historic facts about this area. The tombs were created from 3500bc to 4000bc by men to honour their dead. The bodies were cremated in an oak and hazel fire until they were nothing but bones,
