Polar Regions

We’ve enjoyed our topic on the Arctic and Antarctic. In class we’ve had a Polar Regions library with books to read and examples of various animals that inhabit the Polar Regions. We created our own books on polar bears and penguins. In art we painted an adult emperor penguin or a chick, recreated some Inuit art and made a scene showing a polar bear

We looked carefully at some pictures of emperor penguins – the shapes and colours. We chose whether to paint an adult or a chick.

Inuit art We looked at some examples of Inuit Art then tried our own versions.   Polar Bears under the Northern Lights First of all we used a purple and then a blue wash. The Model Gallery

Blog post written by Sarah  We went to the Model Art Gallery on the 10th of November 2016 and it was amazing! The building used to be a school but then a family bought it. Later they gave it to Sligo County Council and they made it into an art gallery. We went on a tour there. Our tour guide’s name was Chelsea Canavan.

  First Class created very scary haunted houses in art last week. Here are some spooky pictures…….


Not so Scary Scarecrows!!

We painted a background of a sky and different fields using water paints, then we added our scarecrows! Some comments from the children; “My scarecrow has 19 patches”, Romilly Rose. “Our scarecrows turned out lovely”, Conor. “My scarecrow is very scary”, Harry. “My scarecrow’s name is Aimee Lee”, Isabel. Aoibhinn added, “my scarecrow loves buttons, so I called her Buttons”! Here are some photos…  


Summer Drinks!

We made summer drinks in art.  We decided what flavour our drinks would be, added two full slices and two half slices of lemon, ice cubes and straws to our drinks. We also tasted some fruit flavoured drinks in class and talked about the importance of staying hydrated in this lovely sunny weather! Senior Infants  


Earth Day Art

  Some comments… “I liked colouring in the rainbow”, said Nicole. “My earth had the North Pole on it”, said Sadhbh. ” I liked drawing the sea and land on planet Earth”, said Conor. We are all going to try hard to look after our planet! Senior Infants


Pig in the Pond

Senior Infants have been reading the story, The Pig in the Pond.  It is a very funny story, especially the part where Neligan(the farmer), jumped into the pond with all the animals! We also made a pig and a pond out of clay with Ms McKirdy.   We let them dry and then we painted them. Mrs Nairn brought in some moss and we put our clay creations
