Saint Patrick’s Day Celebrations – 2nd Class

Lá Glas was a very exciting day in second class. We had a catwalk show in our room to show off all the lovely costumes, sang Irish songs and made 3D shamrock cards.


2nd Class African Projects

The children worked individually or in pairs to make a 3D object relating to Africa. Most made animals and shields. They loved presenting their projects to other classes. Well done!


Road Safety – 2nd Class

We are currently reading a novel called The Hodgeheg by Dick-King Smith. It deals with the topic of road safety. The hedgehogs in the story face many challenges trying to cross the road. We also learned the Safe Cross Code in class and took part in a poster competition. We were asked to design a poster promoting the use of high visibility clothing. Good

Hallowe’en in Second Class


Organic Garden – 2nd Class

We went out to the school garden in September to see all the vegetables that grew over the summer months. It was amazing to see how much had happened since we saw them in June.


Sports Day – 2nd Class

Sports day was on Friday June 22nd and we had such great fun! Activities included: bouncy castle, parachute games, space-hoppers, scooters, skis, dodgeball, simple orienteering, bench ball, tug of war, co-operative games and races.


2nd Class School Tour

On Wednesday June 20th we went to Mayo Leisure Point in Castlebar. We had lots of fun playing in Nokeys ball pit, Laser World and bowling.


Holy Communion

Holy Communion took place on May 19th this year. The children had a lovely day after all the practising in the weeks beforehand. They went on a lovely retreat to Knock in the week leading up to the Communion and met the Carmelite nuns in their monastery. They even made their own Holy Communion with the help of the nuns. Gardening – 2nd Class

On Friday June 1st Mrs.O’Rourke and Seamus took our class out to the school organic garden. We planted many seeds such as beans, beetroot and red onion. We learned how to evenly space out the seeds and how to care for our garden.


Orienteering – Second Class

Second Class took part in an orienteering lesson with Ms.James. They worked in pairs to find matching cards under cones around the astro pitch. It was a lot of fun!
