Visit to Strandhill Airport

strandhill_airportThe pupils and staff of The Glen went on a trip to Strandhill Airport today. The trip was organised as part of our work on an airport theme for the past few weeks. This, in turn, was part of our overall school theme of Transport for the month of November.

Pupils got a chance to put into action all of the things that they had been learning about the airport in school. The practised checking in for a flight, having their bags weighed, handing in their passport and getting a Boarding Pass.

They then got a unique chance to put their bag through the scanner and see the scan on the computer. They went through security screening and into the Departures Lounge.

They also got a chance to visit the Control Tower to see where the air traffic controllers work. The airport fire engine crew showed the pupils how they can use the truck to put out a fire.

The pupils then got the chance to visit the air sea rescue hanger and get into the rescue helicopter. They finished off the trip by having lunch in the airport terminal building.

The pupils and staff would like to sincerely thank all of the staff of the airport for providing the pupils with such a memorable visit.
