In art we have been studying the work of Henrí Matisse. Matisse is a French artist known for making colourful works of art.

Matisse is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Fauvism movement in which natural scenes are portrayed in unnatural, usually extremely bright colours. He used a variety of materials in his work, including oil paint, bronze and he would also make drawings using charcoal.

As Matisse became older, he began to work with brightly coloured paper and used scissors to cut out shapes, animals, leaves, dancers and flowers and then arrange them.

We studied three particular pieces of art by Matisse (The Dancer’, Woman in a Purple Coat’ and ‘Strada Fornata) and used these as inspiration for our own art pieces.
