Debating

In Fifth class we have been involved in debating for the past few months and have enjoyed it very much .It was a fun way to read and research topics like the benefits of homework, climate change, use of iPads in the class and charity begins at home. There were six on our debating team; three speakers, a chairperson and two time keepers, though all of the class got involved. We loved doing conscience alley and had lively arguments in class.

We were delighted to win the county final debate in the Model Niland centre, proposing the motion that iPads should replace all schoolbooks. Sam on our team won best speaker on that occasion. In the regional final we opposed the motion that “Charity begins at home here in Ireland” and unfortunately lost that debate. St Mary’s Primary school Strokestown in County Roscommon supported the motion and were victors on the day. We wish them the best of luck in Dublin and look forward to next year’s debating competition.

Here is a photograph of this year’s debating team.
