Newsletter 21st March, 2013

Dear Parents,

Please read the following notices, which contain important information.

New classes for Next Year

We are delighted to inform parents that we have received sanction from the Department of Education and Skills and the National Council for Special Education to open 2 special classes for children with Autism/ASD next September. Each class (a junior and a senior class) will accommodate a maximum of 6 children and the Department will provide additional teachers and Special Needs Assistants to the school. A building application is being submitted along with the building application for the new mainstream classroom also. This is wonderful, positive news for the school and the Board of Management will be working on design and planning applications over the coming months. We hope to get building underway as soon as possible.

Art Classes for Parents

Georgina Melly, a parent in our school, has very kindly offered to teach painting classes for parents in the school hall. Georgina proposes that the classes would take place in the morning for a 2 hour session either on a Thursday or Friday morning. Georgina would give the classes free of charge, however there would be a minimal cost of approx €15 per person to cover all the art materials, which Georgina would provide. We can finalise day and times when we know how many are interested and which day would be most suitable. Please send a note in to Mrs. Hampson indicating your interest and if either of the two days mentioned would suit you best. I think this is a very kind offer and a great way of getting parents together!

Football Final

As I am sure your children told you, we had a very exciting football final played here on Tuesday, with Cork and Mayo battling it out on the field. After a very close game, Mayo won by a point. Charlie Harrison came to present lovely gold and silver medals to the team. Many thanks and congratulations to Mr. Mc Groary, who has run this league, giving up his lunch breaks over many weeks. We will have a very skilled school team when the Cumann na mBunscoil competition starts after Easter. Thanks to the parents who came and supported at the final and to all involved!!

Rounders Blitz

Mr. Mc Groary has taken a team of 12 children to participate in a rounders blitz today. Well done to all!

Credit Union

Angela from the Credit Union will be here on the Wednesday morning of our first week back after Easter. Children may bring in savings to lodge.

Do This In Memory

The next Mass is on Sunday, 24th March at 11. Unfortunately, I will be away on this day so there will be no children’s choir at the Mass.

Junior and Senior Infant Trips

The Junior Infants had a wonderful day yesterday in Sligo Garda Station and at the park. The Senior Infants had a great experience at the Fire Station and the park. Lovely photos to be seen on the school website. Thank you to all involved in making the day so enjoyable for our children.

Lá Glas and Tráth na gCeist

This was a great success and children participated with great enthusiasm. Photos on the website! Bhí a lán Gaeilge le cloisteáil timpeall na scoile!

Chernobyl Easter Raffle

This year the proceeds from the raffle will be shared between the Chernobyl Charity and Cystic Fibrosis. The draw will take place tomorrow and children will have a final opportunity to purchase tickets in the morning. There are 4 hampers to raffle. €1 per strip of tickets.

Feedback to Parents on the Parent Questionnaires

Mr. Quinn has been working on getting the feedback and the responses from parents to our earlier School Self Evaluation Questionnaire up on the website. The good news is this is available for parents to view from today. Follow these steps and enjoy seeing what the parents had to say about our school. 84 questionnaires were completed out of a total of 136 families. Thank you all sincerely.

• Go to school website on www.ransboro.ie

• On bar at top of homepage, click on School Life

• Under the downloads item on the dropdown menu, select Parents Questionnaire Responses

Easter Break

Finally, a reminder to you all that school will close at 12 tomorrow, 22nd March for the Easter holidays and will re-open on Monday, April 8th! We wish you all a safe and enjoyable break and thank you all for your continued support.

Le Gach Deá-ghuí,

Siobhán Clarke
