Newsletter October 1st

Dear Parents, 1.10.12

I hope this letter find you all well and settled into the school term. The following are some notices which I would like to bring to your attention so please read carefully.

Trip to Hawks Well Theatre

All children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th classes are going to the Hawks Well Theatre on Monday, 22nd October at 10am to see a production of “The house that Jack filled”. The cost of the show inclusive of the bus is €8 per child. Children can bring in the money to their teacher in an envelope marked with their name.

Text Messages-Important!

A test text has been sent today to all parents from our new system which is substantially cheaper than the previous system. It is very important that you notify Mrs. Hampson immediately if you have not received this text this morning, so she can update the system to include your number. Important information is communicated through the text system regularly.

Team Hope Christmas Shoeboxes

Every year the children in our school go to great efforts preparing gift shoeboxes for less fortunate children around the world. The leaflets are going home today explaining about this projects and children have the next month to work on putting together their shoeboxes. We will be collecting them the week immediately after the mid-term break so put your leaflet in a safe place! If people would like to do extra shoeboxes, Mrs. Hampson has some spare leaflets in her office.

First Communion

The First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday, 18th May. We will send information home in the coming days to invite parents to a meeting to set up the “Do This In Memory” Programme, which is a parish-based preparation programme for the Sacrament.

Confirmation

There is no date available yet for the Confirmation. There was very positive feedback from 6th class parents in relation to a parish-based programme for Confirmation children, Fr. Mc Crann plans to arrange an information session for parents, given by a person in the Diocese with experience of this programme shortly. More information will follow.

Athletics Fest

36 children from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes will compete at this competition on Friday. The children who are competing can bring a packed lunch, a drink and €3 for the bus. The Fest starts at 10am and finishes at 2pm. Parents are most welcome to come along to Sligo IT running track during the day!

Art and Craft Money

If you have not paid this yet for your child, please do so as soon as possible.

 Voluntary Contribution

Thank you to the many parents who have paid this. We appeal to parents if at all possible to pay this. If you wish to pay in smaller instalments, this can be arranged. As I am sure you can appreciate, the school is increasingly dependent on these contributions from parents in order to meet the financial demands in the absence of grants that were previously paid to schools.

Hospice Coffee Morning

Sincere thanks to all who supported this very worthwhile cause here in the school. We were delighted to see such a great turnout of parents and grandparents. The sum of €685.52 was raised. Well done!

Maths Week

We are celebrating Maths Week in the school. Ms. Clarke has put up an interactive noticeboard in the front hall of the school and children are having fun with numbers! Perhaps at home you could have some fun with numbers with your children!

Website

Keep an eye on our lovely website! These notes home will now be uploaded on the website!

Active Flag

The application for the renewal of our Active Flag is being submitted today. An Active Flag Committee has been set up in fifth class to help with the work over the year with renewing this flag. Congratulations to the children involved.

Children’s Rosary

This annual event is being held in the Cathedral this evening at 7pm. All children and families are welcome.

With every good wish,

Siobhan Clarke
